Fun Week

This week in Mrs. Jones Class we had lots of fun!

In math we are doing geometry. We learned about perimeter on Friday, We did a math activate about finding the perimeter of our names and other words!

In science we are learning about weather. we are learning about different elements like clouds, relative humidity, and the Coriolis Effect, land breeze, sea breeze, and finally the Beaufort scale.   Mr. Appell, the pilot, is going to come in this week to do a presentation about weather and flying.   Mr. Appell is a very great pilot!

In Social Studies this week we learned about the the French and Indian War. The French and the Indians are fighting the British about who can keep the land.  We all got confused why they called it the French and the Indian war, then figured out that the French and Indians are teamed up to fight the British!   We learned on Friday that the British won the war.  We were kind of sad because the French were very nice to the Indians because they only wanted to trade furs, but the British wants the land to live on!

In reading Mrs. Jones is finishing up There's a Boy in the Girls Bathroom! by Louis Sacher.
We all love this book and are sad its going to end soon!   We are also reading Danger Along the Ohio for reading and history.  We all make are own journals and we got to choose our own character from the story.  We all agree its a great book!

Next week we are going to have our etiquette luncheon at Kings Island Inn and Resort!   Mrs. Overturf  has been teaching us proper etiquette the past few weeks.  Our lunch is on Friday  The teachers and Mrs. O would like you to dress nice.  If you are a boy they would like you to wear a golf shirt or a collared shirt and wear nice pants like khakis.   If you are a girl they would like you to wear nice pants and a nice shirt or a dress.

We had so much FUN this week in Mrs. Jones class and hope we can have another one next week!

Spring Break

I've decided to allow one student each week to update the blog.  I though you all might enjoy hearing what they thought about the week at school.   (Don't worry I'll still get my two cents in)

This week is in Mrs. Jones's class, we learned about probability in math. To help us understand how probability works, we did the March Madness bracket by pulling different colored tiles out of a brown bag. We all enjoyed doing it. Afterwards, we all got to do a bracket of our own, if we wanted to. It was very fun, at least in my opinion.

In science we are learning about weather. We learned the four parts of  the water cycle. To help us remember, we learned three songs. We also learned about clouds. Though there are so many types, we only learned about stratus, cumulonimbus, cumulus, and cirrus.

For reading, we are reading There's a Boy in the Girls Bathroom. It is all about a boy named Bradley who met a boy named Jeff. They were complete opposites, until  Bradley was hit by a girl. Jeff started acting like Bradley and Bradley acted like Jeff.

We also have continued to read our Danger Along the Ohio book. We have gotten two chapters done this week and are excited to read chapter 4 after spring break.

In social studies, we learned about the French explore Robert La Salle and British explore George Croghan. We all agree the French were nicer to the Indians than the British.

As you know, the past week we did our K.M.E 2013 Fourth Grade wax museum. Mrs. Jones went around and took pictures of all her students. Then she taped us doing our speech on her I pad. She put our picture and the taping of our speech on a QR code so anybody can listen to us and see our picture.   Come check it out at school in the main hallway.

Mrs. Jones also says many students need to replenish their supplies.  They need colored pencils the most!

Snow Day? Possibly!!

I'm not sure who is more excited the kids or the teachers for our first snow day !! My meteorologist friend thinks it is a real possibility   We can only hope right?

I have just a few items to update you on.

1.   I have allowed the students to bring their ipod/ipad devices to school to use them during math.  We are using an app called Geoboard by The Math Learning.  They are only allowed to use them during math time and only that app.  Don't worry if you don't have a device, I have been bringing mine in from home and we have been sharing.  If you have allowed your student to bring them to school - thank you so much.  They are really enjoying them.

2.  Conferences are scheduled for next Thursday.  I am trying something new this year for sign ups.  Use this link to set up a time to meet with me -   http://goo.gl/hB0A1    We use the Fall conferences to meet with all parents and Spring conferences are for parents who have concern.  So don't feel like you have to sign up if things are going well and you have no concerns.

3. The Ohio Hero Wax Museum is on Friday March 15th at 2:30 pm.  Your children are writing their reports and speeches as we speak.  They will be ready to start memorizing them by the end of the week.  Now it is the parents turn to get the costume ready and help them memorize their speech.  If your child signed up to be a Rick Sowash person, they need to have their costume here on Thursday.  Everyone else needs to have their costume here on Friday.  Please try to come to the Wax Museum on Friday as they worked so hard to bring history to life.  It is always a great time.

I think that is all for today.  If you have any questions please feel free to email me.
